Bellagio is situated at the head of
the promontory at the estremity of the vast mountainous
Peninsula which divides the lake forming the Como branch to
the west and the Lecco branch to the east.
The
promontory of Bellagio juts out into the central basin of the
lake, called the "Centro Lago". This position
gives it an extraordinary variety of views and this is one
of the reasons why Bellagio has always been known as the
"Perla del Lario" - the Pearl of Lake Como.
The
most ancient part of Bellagio occupies that area
at the end of the promontory and is knows as the Borgo.
Numerous little characteristic suburbs are scattered both
along the lake and the hilly slopes above.
